One of the nation's leading climate advocates made an appearance at Stanford University one week ago.  Tom Steyer was keynote speaker at Stanford Energy Week.

The week was established to engage students in finding solutions to environmental issues.  Steyer was a natural fit since he got his MBA from the school in 1983 and currently sits on the Board of Trustees.

This year's theme for Energy Week was, "Innovating a Sustainable Energy Future."  Steyer keyed his presentation on cleaner electricity, the electrification of everything and improving efficiency.

Steyer founded NextGen Climate, which is a group that uses their political influence to guard against climate disaster.  They have registered nearly 800,000 California voters and hit the ground to talk to citizens about the issues.

Prior to jumping into the world of environmental activism, Steyer was successful in finance as a hedge fund manager.  He was the founder and managing partner of Farallon Capital and co-founder of Beneficial State Bank.

Steyer started his finance career at Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs before founding Farallon Capital in 1986.  He and his wife signed up for The Giving Pledge in 2010 to donate half of their wealth to charity.
