One of the most influential businessmen in Africa is giving the commencement address this year at Morehouse College. Econet Group founder Strive Masiyiwa will address graduates on May 15th at 8 a.m. at the school's Century Campus.
Most uniquely, students that were sponsored by Masiyiwa's Higher Life Foundation will be a part of the graduation. The first nine Andrew Young International Scholars who all came from African orphanages will receive their degrees.
One of those students is 2016 International Rhodes Scholar Prince Abudu. Each graduate will receive ten tickets for the ceremony.
Masiyiwa is Zimbabwe's first billionaire. He fought a constitutional legal battle to end the state monopoly on telecommunications services.
That win in court allowed him to found Econet Wireless. Last year, Forbes named him one of the "Ten Most Powerful Men in Africa" and CNN Fortune Magazine called him one of the "World's 50 Greatest Leaders" in 2014.
Masiyiwa sits on several international boards and the Morehouse College Board of Directors. In addition to the Higher Life Foundation, he helps fulfill his philanthropic goals as a member of the Giving Pledge.
