Case Western Reserve Names Former Cleveland Clinic CEO Toby Cosgrove Commencement Speaker

One of America's leaders in the healthcare industry over the last 15 years is speaking at Case Western Reserve University this spring. Former Cleveland Clinic CEO Toby Cosgrove in the school's commencement speaker.
Cosgrove will be in Cleveland for the ceremony on May 20 at 9:30 a.m. in the Veale Convocation, Athletic and Recreation Center on campus. As leader of one of the city's top organizations for many years, his presentation should be particularly impactful.
Cosgrove has a wealth of experience to lean on as he provides the Class of 2018 with advice. In a release, Case Western Reserve President Barbara R. Synder lauded his accomplishments.
“Toby Cosgrove’s impact on patients, Cleveland Clinic and our broader community cannot be overstated,” Snyder said. “His experiences and achievements make him ideally suited to inspire our graduates as they embark on their own journeys.”
Cosgrove guided Cleveland Clinic as president and CEO from 2004-2017. He is still an executive advisor for the hospital he helped lead to becoming the second-ranked hospital in the country according to U.S. News & World Report.
Cosgrove began his career as a surgeon in the U.S. Air Force. He joined Cleveland Clinic in 1975 and served as the chair of the Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular surgery for 15 years.
Cosgrove completed over 22,000 operations before retiring from clinical practice in 2006. He holds 30 patents for medical innovations and is particularly known for his work with valve repair.
