As the President of the Carnegie Corporation of New York, Vartan Gregorian has a part in helping numerous causes. He recently lent his time to another as the keynote speaker for the Aga Khan Foundation second biennial gala.
The event was held on November 15th at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The theme was "Educate Today for a Better Tomorrow."
The foundation raised $2.5 million. In addition to Gregorian giving the keynote, television personality Ali Velshi was the emcee and Tony winner Renee Elise Goldberry gave a special performance.
Gregorian has guided the Carnegie Corporation since 1997. He was previously the president of Brown University for nine years.
Gregorian began his career as an academic teaching at San Francisco State College. He also taught at UCLA, the University of Texas and the University of Pennsylvania.
Gregorian was also a founding dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences and provost at Penn. From 1981-89, he was president of the New York Public Library.
