Singer-songwriter Susan Aglukark has been an outspoken voice for diversity in Canada. On April 14th, she got the opportunity to lift others up yet again.
Aglukark was the keynote speaker at the seventh annual Hope Forum & Youth Anti-Stigma Summit. The summit was held in Thompson, Manitoba at the Thompson Regional Community Centre.
The two-day forum had an array of activities, including a pancake brunch with former NHL star Theo Fleury. There were various speakers who addressed topics related to mental health as well.
Aglukark has inspired many across Canada with her music that is influenced by her Inuit roots. She has merged styles to have a successful career that has included nine studio albums.
In 1995, Aglukark's career reached new heights. Her single "O Siem", reached numbed one on the Canadian adult contemporary and country music charts.
For her music excellence, Aglukark has won three Juno Awards. She was named an officer of the Order in Canada in 2005 for her contributions to the country.
