The Cambridge Healthtech Institute has grabbed one of America's leaders in health research to keynote their annual conference. The recently appointed Director of Precision Medicine Initiative Cohort Program at the National Institutes of Health, Eric Dishman, will speak at the 8th International Leaders in Biobanking Congress.
The conference is being co-hosted by Johns Hopkins University at the Baltimore Hilton, September 7-9. "Applying Biospecimen Science to Advance Biomedical Research and Patient Care" is the theme of the two-day event.
At the International Leaders in Biobanking Congress, attendees will grapple with how to bring together biomedical and biopharmaceutical researchers, among other topics. Dishman's presentation is titled, "The NIH Precision Medicine Initiative: The Potential of a Million".
In his new role at NIH, Dishman leads a $130 million Presidential Initiative to create a groundbreaking national research group that draws on the assistance of over one million volunteers. Dishman was also vitally important to the development of the initiative as a member of the PMI Working Group that came up with the blueprint for this study.
Prior to taking the director post in April, he was at Intel Corporation's Health & Sciences Group as an Intel Fellow. He founded Intel's Health Research and Innovation Lab and was one of the founders behind Intel's Digital Health Group.
Dishman may be best known for his work as a cancer patient advocate. He battled a rare form of kidney cancer for over two decades and became cancer-free due to access to precision medicine.
