Maria Elena Salinas has inspired a generation of Hispanic viewers with her award-winning journalism on Univision.  Salinas will try to motivate an entirely different audience in May.

She has been chosen as a commencement speaker at Cal State Fullerton.  Salinas will address graduates on May 22nd.

In addition, she will receive an honorary doctorate from the school.  Over 60,000 people are expected on campus that weekend for two days of commencement ceremonies.

Salinas has been an anchor on Noticias Univision since 1987.  In 2000, she added co-hosting duties for the network's news magazine show, Aqui y Ahora.

The New York Times has described Salinas as "The Voice of Hispanic America".  Last year, she won the Peabody Award for her news special "Entre el abandono y rechazo".

Salinas is a founder and member of the Hall of Fame for the National Association of Hispanic Journalists.  After graduating from UCLA, she began her journalism career at KMEX in Los Angeles.
