Bestselling author Michael Eric Dyson got the opportunity recently to speak to one of the largest gatherings of librarians and publishers in the world.  He was a keynote speaker at the American Library Association Annual Conference.

The conference was held June 23-28 in Orlando.  There were over 2,000 events and hundreds of author appearances.  

Dyson gave his presentation at the opening general session at 4 p.m. on June 24th.  In addition to all the events, there were 700 exhibiting companies present to show the latest as it involves libraries.

Dyson has authored 17 books.  His book, "Come Hell or High Water: Hurricane Katrina and the Color of Disaster", won the American Book Award. 

The most recent book Dyson has written is titled, "The Black Presidency: Barack Obama and the Politics of Race in America".  In addition to books, he also contributes to the New York Times and the New Republic. 

When he is not writing, Dyson teaches sociology at Georgetown University.  Essence Magazine has named Dyson as one of the 50 most inspiring African-Americans in the U.S.
