The Los Alamos History Museum had a big blowout celebration for their grand reopening last Friday. One of the special people in attendance was guest speaker Clifton Truman Daniel.
Daniel shared fun stories about his grandfather, former U.S. President Harry S. Truman. He told the audience an anecdote about not finding out his grandfather was president until being told at school.
Los Alamos holds a significant place in the history of the Truman presidency. The Manhattan Project took place in the city and nuclear weapons were developed there.
Daniel often travels the country for speaking engagements related to his grandfather. He also preserves his name as the Board of Trustees honorary chairman at the Harry S. Truman Library Institute.
In 1995, Daniel wrote the book, "Growing Up With My Grandfather: Memories of Harry S. Truman." He chronicled more of his family's history with the 2011 book, "Dear Harry, Love Bess: Bess Truman's Letters to Harry Truman 1919-1943."
Previously, Daniel served as the Director of Public Relations for Harry S. Truman College. He has been a newspaper writer and editor as well.
