New Orleans native Harry Connick Jr. always stays true to his roots. The singer-songwriter and American Idol judge will be giving a commencement address this spring right back at home in The Big Easy.
Connick Jr. will speak in front of over 750 graduates at Loyola University on May 21st. The ceremony takes place at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome starting at 9:45 a.m.
In addition to his talk to the Class of 2016, Connick Jr. will be presented with an honorary doctorate of music. It is a small token for a man who has been instrumental in promoting the musical heritage of New Orleans.
Connick Jr. is a jazz icon, producing ten number one albums, more than any artist in the genre's history. He has sold over 26 million albums over his distinguished career.
With three Grammys, two Emmys, and two Tony nominations, Connick Jr. has a full trophy case. Additionally, he has been a versatile entertainer, with several roles in television and film.
For five years, Connick Jr. starred on the hit sitcom "Will & Grace". He has been the main judge on the past three seasons of American Idol.
