Amazon's Chief Technology Officer Werner Vogels recently got the opportunity to unveil some of the latest products his company is working on. He spoke at an Amazon Web Services conference for their customers in Las Vegas.

At AWS re:Invent 2016, there were several announcements made. With Amazon's increasing market share globally, this certainly was one of the more significant events in the history of the organization.

Some of the innovations Vogels rolled out in particular included a mobile analytics service and a new data catalog tool. He also revealed improvements to their Lamba computing service.

Vogels originally joined Amazon in 2004 as Director of Systems Research. The following year, he was promoted to CTO and since has been a guiding hand for the company's approach to cloud computing.

For over a decade prior to coming to Amazon, Vogels was a research scientist at Cornell University. He also co-founded Reliable Network Solutions, Inc. and served as their vice president and CTO from 1999-2002.

In 2014, ExecRank named Vogels the top CTO in the U.S. He is the recipient of the 2009 Media Momentum Personality of the Year Award and the inaugural Holland on the Hill Heineken Award.
