Last Tuesday, actress Vanessa Williams headlined a very special event on short notice. She served as the keynote speaker at Leadership Niagara's Leader of the Year luncheon.
Williams filled in for Judge Glenda Hatchett on 24 hours notice. Her presence was certainly essential for the sold-out event to be a success.
A noon lunch was preceded by an hour of networking. Five people were honored in categories ranging from Leader of the Year to Lifetime Commitment Award.
Williams has mastered several areas of the entertainment industry. She first rose to notoriety as Miss America 1984, becoming the first African-American woman to be awarded the crown.
In 1988, Williams released her first album "The Right Stuff" and garnered three Grammy nominations. Her second album, "The Comfort Zone" hit the top spot on the R&B charts and spawned the number one single "Save the Best for Last".
Recently, it has been Williams acting career that has taken center stage. For her role in ABC's "Ugly Betty", she has been nominated for three Primetime Emmy Awards.
