Actor Sean Astin Named Keynote Speaker for Utah Valley University Addiction Conference

On Friday, actor Sean Astin will speak at Utah Valley University about a very important issue.  Astin is the keynote speaker for the school's annual UVU Conference on Addiction.

The day-long conference begins with his speech at 9 a.m. in the Sorenson Student Center Grande Ballroom.  In addition to Astin's presentation, there will be sessions for people seeking information on chemical dependency and compulsive addictions.

There will also be help available for families dealing with the addiction problems of a loved one.  Regular admission costs $59.

Astin is most notoriously known by moviegoers today for his role as Samwise Gamgee in The Lord of the Rings trilogy.  He also has played Mikey Walsh in the cult classic The Goonies and was the star of the inspirational sports movie Rudy.

In 2016, Astin is set to appear in two films, Bad Kids of Crestview Academy and Range 15.  He makes frequent appearances in various television series and is an accomplished voice actor as well.

Throughout his career, Astin has dabbled in directing and producing and is film Kangaroo Court was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film in 1994.  This past October, he tackled an entirely different obstacle, competing in the Ironman World Championship in Kailua Kona, Hawaii.
