Actor Danny Glover has long been an activist for political and social issues.  Glover has an important speaking engagement this January that ties into the causes he champions.

The city of Lexington, Kentucky has announced that he will serve as the keynote speaker at their annual Martin Luther King Jr. celebration.  The event will be held January 18th at the Lexington Convention Center.

A freedom march kicks off the festivities at 10:00 a.m. and the public program featuring Glover starts at 11:00 a.m.  It promises to be a special occasion for all in attendance.

Glover has used his public platform to advocate for social change.  He is currently an ambassador for UNICEF and has worked with the United Farm Workers and American Postal Workers Union.

Even prior to achieving fame on the silver screen, Glover stood up for his beliefs.  He was active in the Black Students Union while attending San Francisco State University.

Glover catapulted to fame with several successful roles in the 1980s, particularly his appearances as Mr. Albert Johnson in The Color Purple and Sergeant Roger Murtaugh in Lethal Weapon.
