Over the past year, J.K. Simmons has been one of the hottest actors in Hollywood. Due to his ongoing popularity, it was no surprise when the University of Montana announced him as their spring commencement speaker.
Simmons will address the graduates on May 14th at 10 a.m. at Washington-Grizzly Stadium. No tickets are required for the main ceremony.
In addition to his speech, Simmons will also receive an honorary doctorate from the school. He graduated from UM with a music degree in 1978 and his father was a music professor at the school.
Simmons won the Academy Award and Golden Globe last year for Best Supporting Actor for his role in "Whiplash". He is also known for playing J. Jonah Jameson in the recent Spider-Man trilogy.
An extensive amount of Simmons' notoriety has come from the iconic television characters he has played. He was Dr. Emil Skoda on "Law & Order", Vernon Schillinger on "Oz", and Assistant Police Chief Will Pope on "The Closer".
Simmons has been an accomplished voice actor as well. He began his career in theater, first locally in Seattle and then on Broadway.
