Abduction Survivor Elizabeth Smart Named Keynote Speaker at Cache Valley United Way Event
Feb 25 2016
Carson Ingle
Everyone knows Elizabeth Smart's story of survival, but that does not make her speaking appearances any less impactful. Smart speaks to groups all over the country but she will address a group much closer to home in May.
She is the keynote speaker at the United Way of Cache Valley's annual fundraising dinner on May 13th. The dinner will be held at the Riverwoods Conference Center in Logan, Utah starting at 7 p.m.
In addition to speaking, Smart will answer audience questions and sign copies of her memoir. General admission tickets are $99 while a table of 10 costs $990.
Smart was abducted as a 14-year-old from her home in Salt Lake City in 2002. Despite being brutally abused, she was rescued nine months later just 18 miles from her home.
In the face of that potentially devastating life event, Smart went on to thrive. She has served as a correspondent for ABC News and become a leading child protection advocate.
Smart has spoken in front of Congress multiple times to support different legislation aimed at keeping children safe. In 2011, she started the Elizabeth Smart Foundation which supports the Internet Crimes Against Children task force.
